    Description

This is an antique solid silver spoon from the Netherlands, known as a monkey spoon, from around 1900 or so.  They were custom made to depict important events, such as births, deaths, weddings and the like and made to hang on the rim of a punch bowl.  The Dutch liked to hide hallmarks, so we may have missed some.  It can be fun trying to find them.
I've sold a number of these over the years, and it is interesting to see how many are still around.  This one is rare in that it is smaller than others.  I've never seen one this size before.  Very nicely made.
The spoon has a putti cherub with a bow and arrow on the handle and a bird on the finial hook.
The oval bowl has an ornate design.
Only one mark that we can find and it is on the back of the handle.  This spoon might be very old, possibly pre-1850.  It is the Dutch sword mark, indicating 835/1000 silver.  In fact, the sword has "835" on it.  There is another worn mark.
It is about 3-1/2" long.  These were made mostly in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  It weighs about 13.6 grams.
The bowl itself measures about 1-1/2" across and has a tiny bit of spotting, not much.
