Kanun has been handcrafted by us, Saadettin Sandi and Bahadir Sandi. We are renown luthiers in Turkey, doing this job since 40 years. Our company name is Cankaya Music. You can find more details about us at www.cankayamuzikevi.com.
Sound system is different than Turkish music system. Kanun is made for western music and
Arabic music
and its sound system is same with piano. There are full tones, half tones and quarter tones. So all western classical and popular music can be played with it.
It is professional quality with its sound, materials and craftmanship. It is generally preferred by professional players in Turkey.
It is 26 string kanun. Metal bridges (we call it as mandal) are made of Alpaka (a kind of alloy) which is preferred for professional kanuns. The other harder (and cheaper) metals usually cut strings by the time. All mandals are very well working. We also make mandals ourselves in our factory. Many kanun makers are buying mandals from us in Turkey and in some Arabic countries.
Strings are PVF. It is flourocarbon monofilament which is imported from Japan by us. They are very high quality, durable and gives wonderful sound tones in both bass and high pitched sounds.
We use tuning which starts from A in Turkey. Different tunings maybe used. It is 3.5 octaves.
Soundboard is solid Walnut. Sides are solid walnut as well. The flower in the middle of the kanun is real pearl. Skin is cow skin specially processed and very convenient for kanun. It is imported from Pakistan.
We are the manufacturers of the instruments we put in ebay. We don't buy and sell. It means cheaper prices with higher quality.
It will come with a hardcase which handcrafted with plywood. It is covered with artificial skin. It is very safe for shipping.
Shipment will be done via Fedex. It takes nearly 4-5 days to arrive.
